Once upon a time in a land far, far away

Once upon a time in a land far, far away, there was a beautiful princess who lived in the tallest tower of a beautiful castle in a beautiful kingdom ruled by her beautiful family which consisted of her parents and her.
One sunny morning on the first day of spring, she took her beautiful white horse out for a ride in the woods.
Thump, thump, thump- as the horse’s hard hooves collide with the paved road.
She looked at the high trees standing firmly on the earth beneath them, their trunks a straight line with thin, shallow lines and their leaves smooth hair strands playing with the soft wind.
They reminded her of her family. A proud, surreal beauty given from above to blind mankind and assure them that nothing would go wrong as long as they were by their side.
Truth was, they built a wall- a giant wall to lock themselves in and separate them from the rest of the world’s problems. Surely, having blind, willing slaves serve them food on their platter and worship them would not be a problem.
The scary thing is, it actually didn’t. There was no hero who stood up against the King’s rules. There was no one who questioned the excessive amount of clothes and rugs made from pig skin delivered to them during the first days of snow. There was not one person who dared question the gigantic wall that always reeked of rust and smoke and an unrecognizable stench nor what the other side looked like or what it was built for. All they knew was that they were in safe hands. Oh, those poor innocents.
The princess had always prayed for their souls after skinning them alive every winter.

Thump, thump, thump- the horse began.

Story by someone who knows something you don’t. 🙂
