I am writing on behalf of my daughter …

I am writing on behalf of my daughter. Her freshman year of high school we lived in a shelter due to domestic violence. My daughter became my rock. She stayed strong as we faced the terrible conditions in the shelter like fleas in the sheets and sharing one room with her brothers and I. Even after the months she spent there she was volunteering and getting her friends involved still trying to make a difference. When the time came she applied to Howard University. Despite the school having a 35% acceptance rate she was accepted and we were overjoyed.
Then things took a turn for the worst and I lost my job. I felt like I had failed my kids. Despite her dream with our financial future up in the air Alexis chose not to go Howard for a year so that she could work. She has always been a leader. However she went above and beyond and set an example for her two younger brothers. She went to community college and received Academic Honors, and worked two jobs to help our family.

I am reaching out to you because not only are you all strong independent women but because she looks up to you. She contributes everything she gets to the house. She has transferred to Howard now and is Political Science major and Administration of Justice minor. She has a balance for school and can’t even afford to update her wardrobe. I am not able to support her like I want to but I’m reaching out because I know someone can. I hope you find it in your hearts to help.
